The Role 

A permanent employment opportunity currently exists for an experienced and qualified Automotive Mechanic to train and develop into a Diesel Mechanic role, carrying out scheduled servicing and repairs, Long Term Maintenance and any unscheduled repairs as directed, ensuring that the Transport fleet of prime movers, tankers, light vehicles, and plant is consistently available in a reliable, safe and work ready condition. Flexibility with start times is on offer and overtime is available. The position reports to the Workshop Manager and is based in Smithfield, NSW.

 
Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out scheduled and unscheduled servicing and repairs, including Long Term Maintenance of Prime Movers, Tankers, Light Vehicles and/ or Plant and Machinery as directed on both company and external customer vehicles.
  • Carry out routine and specialist diagnosis of vehicle/plant failures and implement resolutions.
  • Respond to and manage unplanned breakdowns and mechanical failures.
  • All breakdown and service-related paperwork completed and submitted to supervisors on completion of works.
  • Complete JSA’s for required tasks in accordance with Company policies.
  • Complete Take 5’s, Safety Observations and Hazard reports as required.
  • Participate in risk assessments of current and proposed work practices and operations.
  • Investigate and report all accidents, incidents, near misses or hazards identified in the work environment.
  • Establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships with others that positively represents the transport brand.
  • Prioritise and organise personal work activities to achieve all required outcomes and deliverables.
  • Maintain a tidy, clean and safe work environment.
  • Maintain, store and use all Company specialised tooling and equipment.
  • Participate in routine administrative matters (team meetings, communications, planning and Toolbox sessions).
  • Identify and/or make recommendations or implement opportunities to continuously improve workshop operations.
  • Maintain a commitment to individual development. 

About You: 

  • Relevant trade qualification – Heavy Vehicle or Automotive Mechanic (essential)
  • Car License (essential)
  • Experience in preventative maintenance and repairs to dangerous good equipment/tankers/LPG/Fuel (desirable).
  • Ability to identify and diagnose cause of failures in plant/vehicles
  • Current knowledge of industry sector and working practices of heavy duty plant/vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Understanding of principles for identifying and managing hazards and risks in the workplace
  • Good verbal and written communication skills for completion of required paperwork and an understanding of maintenance related paperwork, service sheets etc.
  • Effective individual planning and organising skills for scheduling their own individual work according to safety, priority and production requirements
  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing needs depending upon workflow demands and requests from Supervisors
  • Good general computer skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Maintain a positive approach to the work environment and remain resilient under pressure
