Bar/Rod/Warehouse Mill Operator – Steel Manufacturing (Temp to Perm)
Location: Laverton North | Roster: 12-Hour Rotating Shifts | Type: Full-Time, Ongoing
Pay Rate: $48.23/hr (Day) | $62.69/hr (Night) + 16.5% Super
Join one of Australia’s leading steel manufacturers at our Laverton North Bar/Rod Mill/Warehouse departments in a hands-on, high-impact operational role. We’re seeking safety-focused, mechanically minded operators to work across multiple mill and finishing areas in a 24/7 production environment.
This is an exciting opportunity to secure long-term, stable work with excellent pay, ongoing training, and a predictable rotating roster provided 6 months in advance.

* Valid LF Forklift Licence (essential)
* Ability to pass a mechanical aptitude test
* Experience in heavy industrial or production environments (steel preferred)

* Trade Qualification (highly regarded)
* Crane License (highly regarded)
* Commitment to maintaining high standards in safety, production and housekeeping
Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
As a Bar/Rod Mill Operator, you will be trained and rotated across multiple areas, including:
* Roll & Guide Operations: Dismantle and assemble mill stands, build/refurbish roll and guide equipment, maintain operational standards and housekeeping.
- Roughing, Finishing & Main Pulpit Operations: Monitor and control equipment from reheat furnace through to cooling bed/conveyor, ensuring continuity of hot rolling, cutting, and handling systems.
- Bar Mill Cold Shear, Raker, Bundler/Stacker & Tagging Operations; Operate and monitor cold shear, bundle and tag products to customer specifications, and maintain downstream processing flow.
Rod Mill Forklift, Coil former and Tagging Operations: Operate and monitor Coil Former, Transport and stack finished coils with 16T forklift, bundle and tag products to customer specifications, and maintain downstream processing flow. - Laboratory Operations: Ensure all products meet Australian and Infrabuild standards through sampling and quality checks.
- Maintain high safety standards, follow lockout/tagout procedures, and prepare the next shift for success.
As a Warehouse Operator, you will be trained in key Warehouse functions, including:
* Bridge and Gantry crane operations for transporting and loading finished product (licensing highly regarded, however training / qualification will be provided).
- Crane chasing to support loading of finished goods bundles onto flatbed trucks.
- Load Restraint auditing
- Warehousing stocktakes, maintain operational standards and housekeeping including timber chocks for stacking.
- Maintain high safety standards, follow procedures, and prepare the next shift for success.
Roster & Pay
12-hour rotating shift patterns:
Bar Mill & Warehouse 4-shift
○ 2 Days (6am – 6pm)
○ 2 Nights (6pm – 6am)
○ 4 Days Off
Rod Mill & Warehouse 3-shift
- Week 1
○ 2 Days (6am – 6pm)
○ 2 Nights (6pm – 6am)
○ 5 Days Off
- Week 2
○ 3 Days (6am – 6pm)
○ 1 Day Off
- Week 3
○ 3 Nights (6pm – 6am)
○ 4 Days Off
- Rosters are issued 6 months in advance – plan holidays and personal time with confidence
* Rates:
○ $48.23/hr (Day)
○ $62.69/hr (Night)
○ Plus 16.5% superannuation
