The Opportunity

We’re looking for a trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter to join the Guide Shop team at a leading steel manufacturing facility in Laverton.

This isn’t just about filling a short-term vacancy. With some long-standing members of the team reaching retirement, we’re looking for someone who wants to settle into the role, become part of the team and build a long-term future at the site.

You’ll initially commence on a temp-to-perm basis, with a genuine opportunity to transition into permanent employment with the client.

Working within the Guide Shop, you’ll support the Bar Mill and Rod Mill, maintaining, refurbishing and preparing critical equipment to keep operations running safely and efficiently.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Maintain, refurbish and recondition Bar Mill and Rod Mill equipment
• Prepare and maintain guides, mill rolls and housings
• Carry out mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance
• Support equipment changeovers and maintenance during mill downtime
• Complete welding and fabrication repairs using MIG, TIG and/or ARC
• Ensure equipment is ready in line with production requirements
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe work area
• Follow all site safety procedures and requirements

What We’re Looking For

• Mechanical trade qualification – essential
• Strong mechanical fitting and fault-finding skills
• Welding experience – MIG, TIG and/or ARC
• Experience within steel, manufacturing, heavy industry or fixed plant highly regarded
• Experience with mill stands, rolls or guide equipment advantageous, but not essential
• Forklift licence advantageous
• Strong safety focus and a reliable, team-oriented attitude
• Someone genuinely looking for a long-term opportunity
• Ability to complete a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screen
