Mechanical Trade Assistant – Heavy Vehicles

The Role
A permanent employment opportunity currently exists for an experienced Mechanical Trade Assistant to work within their Dandenong South workshop facility and assist Diesel Mechanics to carry out scheduled servicing and repairs, Long Term Maintenance and any unscheduled repairs as directed, ensuring that the Transport fleet of prime movers, tankers, light vehicles, and plant is consistently available in a reliable, safe and work ready condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with carrying out scheduled and unscheduled servicing and repairs, including Long Term Maintenance of Prime Movers, Tankers, Light Vehicles and/or Plant and Machinery as directed on company vehicles.
- Assist Mechanics with unplanned breakdowns and mechanical failures.
- All service-related paperwork completed and submitted to supervisors on completion of works.
- Complete Take 5’s, Safety Observations and Hazard reports as required.
- Participate in risk assessments of current and proposed work practices and operations.
- Follow and comply with company policies and procedures
- Investigate and report all accidents, incidents, near misses or hazards identified in the work environment.
- Establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships with others that positively represents the transport brand.
- Prioritise and organise personal work activities to achieve all required outcomes and deliverables.
- Maintain a tidy, clean and safe work environment.
- Maintain a commitment to individual development.
About You:
- An experienced Mechanical Trade Assistant or a recently qualified Light Vehicle Mechanic looking to develop skills & knowledge in Heavy Vehicle Mechanics
- Previous Mechanical Workshop light or heavy automotive experience
- Own vehicle and Car Licence (essential)
- Previous experience in preventative maintenance and repairs
- Knowledge of industry sector and working practices of vehicle maintenance and repair
- Problem solving and decision-making processes
- Understanding of principles for identifying and managing hazards and risks in the workplace
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- High degree of flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing needs depending upon workflow demands and requests from Supervisors
- Good general computer skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Maintain a positive approach to the work environment and remain resilient under pressure
