Project SHEQ Advisor – Brownfield Electrical Upgrade

We are seeking an experienced Project SHEQ Advisor to support a major brownfield electrical infrastructure upgrade at an operating industrial gas facility in Kooragang Island.
This is a hands-on site-based role supporting the safe delivery of construction, energisation, commissioning and cutover activities. You will work closely with contractors, project leadership and site operations to ensure SHEQ requirements, critical risk controls and Permit to Work requirements are effectively implemented.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily site safety inspections and assurance activities.
- Monitor contractor compliance with SWMS, JSA, lift plans and work packs.
- Verify critical risk controls are implemented and maintained.
- Support Permit to Work reviews and verification, including isolation and LOTO requirements.
- Monitor contractor performance, supervision and compliance.
- Participate in toolbox meetings, pre-starts and daily coordination meetings.
- Manage and monitor risks associated with SIMOPS within an operating facility.
- Support electrical shutdown, commissioning and energisation activities.
- Verify electrical exclusion zones, hold points and readiness requirements.
- Provide field-based safety coaching and intervention.
- Facilitate stop-work interventions where required.
- Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Maintain daily SHEQ records and provide weekly reporting to project leadership.
- Identify emerging risks and support continuous improvement throughout the project.
About You
To be successful, you will have:
- 10+ years’ experience in construction, industrial projects or major maintenance environments.
- Strong experience working within brownfield industrial facilities.
- Experience supporting electrical infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience with Permit to Work systems.
- Strong contractor management and assurance experience.
- Experience working around high-risk construction activities.
- Strong understanding of critical risk controls, including:
- HV electrical systems
- Energisation and commissioning
- Isolation and LOTO
- Lifting and crane operations
- Mobile plant
- Excavation and civil works
- Working at heights
- Confined spaces
- Temporary power
- A strong field presence with the confidence to challenge unsafe behaviours and stop work when necessary.
Highly Desirable
Experience within major hazard facilities, chemical plants, refineries, LNG, mining, utilities, power generation or other heavy industrial environments will be highly regarded.
HV electrical project, commissioning and energisation experience, as well as ICAM or equivalent investigation experience, will also be advantageous.
Qualifications & Tickets
Essential:
- Diploma or Degree in WHS, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Construction White Card.
- Current Driver’s Licence.
Desirable:
- Cert IV WHS.
- Electrical background or exposure to electrical commissioning projects.
- ICAM Lead Investigator.
- Lead Auditor qualification.
- First Aid qualification.
